I see that I have red bugs for the second time.  I know who I got them from this time, but I won't say his name.  Anyone know of some biological means of control?  Interceptor worked great for me in the past, but my invertebrates were casualties and I had a serious algae problem a few weeks after treatment.

If nothing else, I can treat with interceptor.  Yuck.

I'm sorry to hear that Corey. That really sucks. Dragonface pipefish eat them but I wouldn't count on them wiping out the red bugs though.

Jason just got some frags from me a week ago. I hope I had nothing to do to it. If so I would like to know. I have not seen any in my tank for over 6~8 months. My Green Mandarin took care of them all in about a week. He will not eat frozen at all. I also know where I got them from. I could have prevented it but I didn't know better.

I've never heard of a Green Mandarin eating red bugs. That would be great.

For those of us that really don't know about red bugs, could someone tell us a little bit about them?  What they look like, how do you get them, are they "bad" for your tank, how do you get rid of them etc..  Thank you.

They are also really hard to see.  I had to take macros of my sps just to notice they were there.  I don't see why you don't say were you got them from though... how are other hobbiest supposed to avoid and the person you got them from should know so they can treat.  If I gave away corals with red bugs or what not I would want to know.  Luckily red bugs have a fairly effective tx, I just got done with an interceptor tx on my tank, but I have no idea who I got them from just because I got so many SPS from so many people in such a short amount of time.

I agree.  This reminds me of when my kids bring home a note from school about lice.  The person who gave them to you should be informed but also so should others so that they would know to check their tanks. Who knows how many people got stuff from that person and then it could just spread all over.  I don't know a lot about red bugs but I do know enough to know that I don't want them in my tanks.    Just my opinion..

I wouldn't want to embaras the person I got them from but I would let them know so they could deal with them and not spread them around.

Well put Mike.  I agree.  Maybe if you let the person that you got them from know, they could inform anyone else they gave coral to.

Duy, my frags are doing really well. As for the Dragon Faced Pipe Fish(bought from Foster and Smith)... it seemed to irradicate the red bugs, but died soon after the red bugs looked like they were gone. When my tank crashed, EVERYTHING died, so I don't think I'll have to worry about too many other parasites so long as I'm careful.

I don't see why they should be embarrassed.  Its not like an std or something LOL.  Pests plague all of our tanks at one time or another and I think information is the only way to prevent the various pests from spreading.  I wouldn't be embarrased, in fact I am proud to admit I have had red bugs, zoa eating nudis, aiptasia, bubble algae and a host of other plagues that I have defeated.... go me.
