Hey man whats up?  I have been on here for some time now.  Good to see that you are getting a bit curious about this side of the hobby.  It will only take a little while then you will be hooked.  Welcome to the forum.  Lots of great people here to answer any question that you have.  Dustin

Read alot about where you want to go the more you know the better start you will have.

i made the mistake of getting my feet wet completly based on the LFS info. i didn't find this site for a couple of monthes after starting by then i had wasted a few hundred dollars on stuff i didn't need. the sad thing is. i had to start over on my set-up to get it the way i wanted.

trust me - do your research - take it slow - your tank will rock

I lingered around on this board for about 6 months before getting my tank. The best piece of advice that was offered to me back then was, go look at peoples tanks. When you find a tank that you like, find out how they set that piece of their tank up, and set yours up like they did.

Buy a book. Scott Michaels comes to mind. "500+ aquarium fishes" or something to that effect. Probably the best "pocket guide" of all time. Otherwise, feel free to post in the fish section of the board. Some of the interenet fish companies have fairly comprehensive information on most common aquarium fish species. liveaquaria.com comes to mind.

You can also try MarineDepotLive.

I also recommend books by Scott Michael. Check out Marine Fishes and also Reef Aquarium Fishes.
