I have several different shrimp species in my tank (BCS, Peppermint, Cleaner) I havn't noticed them molting often lately. How often should them molt? They appear happy and healthy so I'm not worried. Just curious.
I'm aware of the discussion that iodine is required for successful molting. I havn't added iodine for a long time now. Do I need to begin adding it again?

I really dont have a good answer but in my experance I have found my shrimp molting to be unpredictable. I am also thinking they would do this more when they are growing.

I heard the same thing about adding iodine to help proper molting. I have a fire shrimp with two peppermints and I've only seen my fire shrimp molt twice and haven't seen anything from the peppermints yet. I just figure that I either don't notice the molts in time and they could get stuck behind some rocks. I guess pretty much keep an eye out because after I notice the molts, they're usually gone in a couple of days from being eaten or sucked up.

Mark, you are molting everyday, you just don't notice it. He he 
Can you imagine though, how gross it would be if we molted all at
once like crustaceans do. YUK. That would make me worried.

I've seen my pepermint molt numerous times--sometimes very quickly. But my cleaner didn't seem to molt for a long time when I first got it. But now and again he does--no real pattern to it, just depends on how fast they are growing.

I suppose you could say we do a large molt a few days after a sunburn!  But then that's not technically a molt, is it?

Not really important but didja know that when we peel after a sunburn our bodies select cells that are cancerous and forces them off along with the sloughed skin
wonder if shrimps and other crustaceans do that with the fungi spots and other ailments that seem to come and go. natural defensive abilities are kkeeewwll
hmm.. I should probably not post when half asleep,  . weird things come out
