    Posted: December 19 2006 at 8:10pm
I just saw Adam's tank.  It's a beaut.  He's got little pieces of rubble siliconed up the back of the tank, and there are quite a few zoanthid colonies starting to 'wallpaper.'  He also had some insanely colored zoanthids.  The white ones were a trip-- I thought they were bleached at first before it dawned on me that that's the real color.  Very shagadelic.

Well, anyway, thought I'd give credit where it's due.  Sorry, Adam, if I stuck my foot in my mouth-- I do that so much I don't realize it half the time.  LOL

If anyone gets the chance, take a few minutes to see it.  Very pretty.

Ditto. It also to my knowledge has the most water movement of any other tank in the state. Definately worth a visit.

Everybody keeps talking about Adam's tank as if he actually has one... I've only seen Marzena's tank.  And it does look really nice!

I can agree that the tank does look beautifulThumbs%20Up I think that the water movement plays a major part, then of 'course the number of skimmers that are in the sump play a part also.

Chris- nice to have you over.  Sorry for the rush, feel free to come by again.

Thanks guys.  I think it is alright... for a tank without algae.  Obviously if it were my tank I'd take out half the corals and fill it with algae.Embarrassed
Adam
ps- yep white zoanthids... hoping to sell some soon

Dibs?

Marzenas tank really is gorgeous! Adam, maybe you should start up a tank? I would love to see what you could come up with!

Adam, do all those skimmers really take stuff out of the water or are they just sitting there looking pretty because of the overkill?

Just sitting there looking pretty.  Not sure if it is overkill or if they just don't work well. Confused

Had four on there for quite a while.  ASM G1, Aqua C EV 180, Berlin, Eco Aquatics (looks just like the EV 180).
So far the EV 180 pulls out some stuff, the G1 pulls out a little more, and I've never had to empty the other two.

I need to come by one day Adam,
I pull out a gallon at least a week. I have to empty my skimmer every 3 days.  Too many fish and I feed way too much!!!

I have an ASM G3, and I really like it.  I'm like Tileman in that I overfeed my tank pretty heavily, but I still only have to empty the skimmer cup about once a month.  It's usually completely full of really thick slime by this time though and the riser tube in the middle of the cup has a thick layer of paste inside it.

Skimate viscosity and build up of crud in the neck has everything to do with how far the bubbles have to rise to get into the cup. If the stuff is too thick it can be thinned - too thin, it can be thickened simply by adjusting the bubble height.

Placing a drain tube in a hole in the bottom of the cup saves a lot of work, though it should be checked periodically along with tankwater salinity just in case the bubbles go crazy on the odd day and too much saltwater foam goes down the drain.Smile

My skimmer skims like crazy (~1/2 cup per day) if I clean the neck daily.  That sludge is a foam killer!  I really need to clean my skimmer neck again... I'm tired, I'll do it tomorrow.LOL

I'll bet skimmer sludge is a problem for me.  I need to get on that.  It is difficult for me to get under my stand, remove the cup, and reach into the skimmer to clean.  That's why I only do it ever 4 months or so.
Dave- I feed my fish about once per 5 days or so???  Usually about one frozen cube of fish food.
