Hey guys.. I have two clown fish one larger one smaller. I had the smaller one for about a month before I got the larger one. I am pretty sure the larger one took on the role of the female but the problem I have been having is she has become VERY aggrasive towards the smaller clown, to the point of not letting him eat and keeping him squished up between the glass and my heater. When ever he comes out she chases him back in. Any suggestions? Last night I moved her (the larger) to my small 10 gallon (temp) that I setup about a month ago for growing pods and what not.

Thanks for any ideas

Jason

What kind of clowns are they? Different clowns will accept a mate in different ways...if they are Maroon (only ones I have experience with) you will probably have to get arrid of the smaller one and wait until your female gets larger, then you can introduce a smaller clown who will hopefully become a male.

Usually the larger (female) will turn agressive towards the male. The male would quiver and dance erratically in front of the female. Mine did the same thing also fighting over my anenome or the same territory. Eventually she settled down and accepted him. This went on for some time they eventually became best friends.

I am pretty sure there the common A. percula they are the typical orange with white stripes. I purchased them both from petco but they were from different batches as I got the larger female about a month after the smaller one.

I think if I left them together any longer the lil one would die.. he seemed VERY stressed. But about an hour after I put her in the 10 gallon he was breathing normal and eathing again.

Do I put them back together?

Thanks

I wouldn't put them back together again.  I agree with Rocky709, get rid of one of them, and get a smaller one next time.  It's easier to introduce a smaller clownfish to a larger one than the other way around.  I had two clowns together for 4 months and the larger one picked on the smaller one all the time.  I  finally took the smaller one out, waited 2 more months and put another one in the tank with her.  She liked him right off and they get along great.

If you want to try and put them together again, you might try catching the smaller one and putting it in the 10 gallon with the female.
