Wish me luck. In fact I already have my sacrificial green Chromis' from my other two tanks in there to get it cycling.

I realized that I needed a pump for my Euro-Reef protein skimmer. I called to get a replacement, and I laughed when he told me the price. I thought he was joking. $160. So needless to say I'm not going to be using this skimmer unless I can com across a replacement pump for cheap. If anyone has any suggestions let me know.

I got one from Tyler at Elite Aquatics of a lot less. I tried to pick up another for a friend and he can't seem to get them any longer. But that's been a couple of months and maybe that's changed. I guess by the time you pay for the pump, the fancy pin wheel impeller and the air suction thingy on the front it all adds up. Makes me realize that I really need to take care of it.

I couldn't agree more. Back when the economy was better I was able to trow money all around in this hobby. Those kind of pumps are WAY too wimpy, and don't take a beating very well. Thanks for the heads up, I will check with them.

Gary, that's awesome. I remember your huge tank in the family room. But wait....Sacrificial Green Chromis? Cycling? Haven't you heard? We don't sacrifice fish anymore and we don't deal with the traditional cycle either. Check out the Bob's Reef Method here http://utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=66673 and read the Reefkeeping Tips thread linked below in the sig line.
I have a whole bunch of Macroalgae, some LR and LS for you. Come and get it, free.

Aloha,
Mark Hug

LOL, I just call them that Mark. I don't really kill them. I didn't put them in there until I knew it was ready for fish. I usually start with them because I don't want them bullied later on. I already have live sand, and I haven't quite decided how I am going to aquascape it. I haven't even decided if I'm going to put corals in it or not. It might turn out to be a fish only tank.

A fish only tank still looks good with some of the more fish resilient coral. Coral filter the water and fish pollute it. Lately there has been an increased interest in photosynthetic Gorgonia. I believe it was a Julian Sprung comment that fish generally don't like the taste of Gorgonia so they leave it alone. I have three different types, even an interesting white one. Their beauty is sometimes overshadowed by other coral but no other coral has the look of Gorgonia.

Below is seti007's tank from years ago. He was making collection trips to Florida where Gorgonia is free for the taking because it is so plentiful.

Aloha,
Mark Hug

Good to be back. I haven't forgotten how fun this is. I've been taking care of a few little tanks for some time but just not very active with it. I have to be pretty active now with this big tank now that I have committed to using it again. (I am now wondering if I shoulda started with a brand new aquarium) What is the life on a 210 gallon glass aquarium anyway?

The fish were hiding. Almost no traffic in front of that tank.
Unless the tank has yellow silicone or was left out in the sun, it will be fine.

I've noticed that a lot of LEDs now come with UV. That seems like it would be BAD news for the plastic and silicone in an aquarium.
