How many of you have experienced a coral with stn and the coral has recovered?

I have had this happen several times. It's about 6's whether or not it recovers. It usually means something's off with your water params. I'd check those asap, it can also be caused by excess phosphates, or your salinity being off. Your best bet is to fix your water chemistry and then dip the coral in revive or something similar.

know more than likely there is a parameter off if the coral is dying in the first place, have you ever had this happen to a coral and you broke a piece off and that piece survived?

Its an acro that I've had for a few months and it colored up really nice and had some really good growth but when I got home last night I noticed that it had started bleaching at the base.

Ive had a birdsnest do this before and I just broke a piece above where the tissue was dying and it came back. Wondering if that would work here with an acro...

My salinity was at 1.023 but within the last few weeks It did drop to 1.022.

temp 76
Nitrates 10
Phosphates 0
Calcium 400
Need to get a magnesium test kit.
PH 8.2
Alkalinity 9

Those params are from Wednesday night (the day before I noticed this issue) I also did a 5 gal wc on wednesday.

My problem is that I had to come into work today and I'm worried that this will be gone by the time I get home.

The salinity of 1.022 shouldn't be a big deal, at least in my experience. I have had corals survive where I fragged it off above the line of receding tissue. That's your best bet, if you want to try and keep the whole colony (I'm not sure how large this coral is) dips will sometimes work (particularly an iodine dip) I use either Iodine or Revive (or sometimes both)

Thankfully it is just a frag about an inch tall and starting to grow over the plug. I had my wife take a look and she said its about halfway white but I'll see if I can salvage a piece tonight. I need to figure out whats up though because last month I lost an acro frag due to rtn. Ive got one other tri color acro that is doing really awesome that Id hate to lose.

Thanks Steve!

No problem, wish I could do more to help but sometimes RTN/STN just happens.

To have SPS coral problems twice in a row may indicate something else is going on in the tank. May we see a full tank pic?
Is AC being used and how?
What other coral is in the tank?

Got home from work last night and it was pretty much gone, I was able to break off a little piece that looks like its surviving for now.

I do use AC in the sump that sits in the return pump section. I try and change it every other month. Im going to change it today.

Other coral- frog spawn, hammerhead, blue milli, green milli, birdsnest, candycanes, acans, tri color acro,..

Ill get a pic up later today.

Thanks
