Some thing has been eating my snails for years,and my clam died ,after a few years i spotted what looks to be a " clam worm" one night , its about four inches long, what should i do if anything? i read on the www that some people think there harmless scavangers that have got a bad rap, any thoughts?

Sounds like a polyclad flatworm, they prey on snails and clams. I had one that ate every snail in my tank, had to tear the tank half apart to catch it. Here is a pic  Did it look like this?

Oh yeah, polyclad clam worms are horrid... I've found a few over the years. Yay for quarantine.

thats pretty ugly,but not what i saw in my tank, it look more like a millipede red on one end and then kinda a tan color with lots of legs, i found a pic on the wikipedia that looked almost exactly like it ,it called it a common clam worm

I wouldn't trust what all you find on Wikipedia...or that that's what you have. Are you sure what you found wasn't just a large bristleworm (harmless scavenger)? I looked around for what you said was a "common clam worm" on Wikipedia, and from what I could find, most of those species aren't in typical coral-collecting areas.
