Hi all,  I need to get my 65 gallon glass aquarium drilled for bulkheads. Does anyone know where I can get  a couple 1 3/4" holes drilled in it's bottom ?

 Thanks,  Calvin

If it's tempered glass (I hope I'm right on the term) then you can't drill it. Otherwise, Moutnain Shadow Marine (Centerville) drills holes (be warned....it's been said that they can bit on the unfreindly side). Also, Jon Finch (JFinch) did a killer job on his tank and may be persuaded to assist.

I'm always hesitant to speak up when it comes to drilling someone else's tank.  But, if you can release me from any liability and have a couple frags I'll do it for you.  Or some of the LFSs can do it.

MSM will drill but won't guarantee any tank that wasn't purchased from them.  (ie, I'd go with Jon)

Dan is the man and it's true, they are plenty friendly. Randy makes me laugh. His sometimes very vocal opinion is worth the same as mine

and that's my 2 cents

And next time I go in I'll pay him for all the times he gave me his opinion. No, wait a minute, I'll go broke

The bottom is almost always tempered glass and unless it specifically says that it is not then I would assume the it is.

Having found this out the hard way myself, I would recommend drilling near the top on one of the sides.

MSM wouldn't drill my tank at all.  I had to buy one from them.  I'd go with Jon Finch's offer.

Sorry Fire Shrimp!  I didn't see your question.  I took it down to MSM (fairly long drive) because they said they could drill it.  Randy was busy (no big deal) so we left it.  The next day, they said they couldn't drill it because it was unknown material.  So we picked it up & brought it home.  They said they would order one in, and it took a while.  So we asked if we could bring one from Aquatic Dreams.  I didn't make that phone call.  I guess it was pretty bad.  I can understand their point, though.  But they said they won't drill a tank that isn't purchased there.  So it all worked out, we bought a 55g from them, with holes drilled, etc.  We do have a good system.

MSM drilled a used tank for me.  Of course, I understood that the tank might be ruined (because I didn't know if the bottom was tempered or not) and I told them, "go ahead, I want a new one anyway."

Too bad, but they had no trouble drilling my used tank (three holes and an overflow) so I didn't get a new tank after all.

MSM staff has been friendly and patient with me from day one, without exception.  And no one knows less about this hobby than I do right now.  I love their classes too.

I'm sorry that others feel differently, but I'm a loyal customer for life and had to speak up for my buds at MSM.  I'm sure other LFS are great too, but so far, I wouldn't know!

I had a bad day once.  Some people think it hasn't ended yet.

Wow...I have probably spent $1000 dollars in the last 6 months at MSM. There is one person there that treats me well; the rest do not. I had another bad experience today with them and decided I will never go back again.

clismi,
I'm glad you had a positive experience.  I think many many many people have had experiences like jakeh7056.  Unfortunately many of our club members will never go there again.
But then again, I guess it is MSM's fault, so we shouldn't feel bad.

Hmmm, bashing?  I admit that it is coming from the top (since I posted) but I don't know if I want to say bashing, or sticking up for my members.  As president, I hate hearing from people (like Jakeh7056 whom I have never even met) who say there were treated badly somewhere.

I'm sorry Troy if my post sounded bad, I just thought I was saying what has happened, didn't realize that it was a sore subject.  I'm glad Jakeh7056 made his comment, isn't it good for everyone to hear those experiences?
