Topic: Anemone Questions Posted: December 04 2007 at 6:09pm |
First, so I know where to post next time. Is an anemone considered an invertebrate or coral or neither? Oh, maybe a fish?
I have two Anemones in my tank. My first question has to do with my bubble tip. When I first got him he had tips that looked like a little bubble.. just like I thought he should look. He is now at least 4 times the size, but his tenticles are long and straight. No bubble to them at all. What might cause this?
My second question has to do with a new anemone to my tank. I don't know what type she is, but she has fat white tenticels with bright purple tips. My concern with her is that she doesn't stay still. I've had her for about 10 days now and she's moved locations in the tank more than 2 times every day since I got her. What could cause this?
As always thanks for the help!

Anemones will move around until they find a place they like. Some things that cause them to move are lighting and flow. They don't like a lot of water flow so if there is too much they will move. Mine moved around for about 2 weeks before it found a spot...right where I didn't want it to be!

As far as the bubble tip, not sure what causes the bubbles to go away over time, but I have one that did the same thing. I wouldn't worry.
Anemone move till they find the right spot. Even when they do find that spot they may move to a different one later depending on what they want and how they feel. I had one that stayed in one spot for months then I bumped the rock a little while cleaning and it was just enough the the anemone moved to the other side.
 Deb, awesome.
I had to move 3 sps when one of mine moved.

the white one your are talking about is more than likely a Condylactis Sp. or commonly a haitian. They will move around until they are happy. as for the bubble tip. there is much debate on the tentacles. some say they bubble when they are hungry. some say they bubble when they are at rest, etc etc. I've noticed that when mine are happy they are not bubbled up. i feed them regularly so im guessing that they bubble up when they are hungry or stressed. also remember anemones need good lighting and clean water quality. good luck!

As always - Very helpful information! My biggest concern is that she'll fly into a powerhead at night :(
Thanks a bunch!
