Topic: Pump and Skimmer Suggestions Posted: August 13 2012 at 1:28pm |
I've decide to upgrade my pump on my Biocube and not sure which brand I should buy that has a good track record and will fit in the back chamber of my Biocube.
I've also decided to buy a skimmer that I need to fit in the first chamber of my biocube. I bought a Tunze brand and it was defective so I sent it back. I've not read good things about the Biocube Skimmer. I've done some reading about an Aquatic Life skimmer -- many said it works well, but most had to modify the air line. I'm really not very mechanically mind to figure out how to modify stuff! Does anyone have a suggestion for a skimmer that doesn't need modifications that will fit in the back of the Biocube?

Hydor slim skim nano is small enough to fit I'm pretty sure. It is 3" by 3.3" so if your chamber is at least that it will fit. I am using one on my 30 gal and it is working well. Another one to consider is the new one that is coming out from Innovative marine. Should be out this month I think.

Semper Fi You can live for many causes, but you can only die for one. Pick that one very carfully.

I'm running a maxijet 1200 pump and aquatic life 115 skimmer. Skimmer was modified with the airline mod by the person I purchased it from though it looks easy and there are surely some directions online to do it. Pump works great as does the skimmer.

Salty, Thanks for the recommendation. I just did some research and found some reviews that claim that the Hydor Slim Skim Nano cuts the flow from chamber 1 to 2 in a Biocube so people were having to cut out some of the grating. So then I found some writeup about that new Innovative Marine skimmer and they say it won't fit into the back of the Biocubes! egads ...
So I guess I need to see if I can figure out how to do the airline mod for an Aquatic Life -- cause it will fit into chamber 1 of the Biocube.

I looked it up and the 115 as stated above seems to be the better of options
