I have been out of the hobby for a couple years.  When I exited the hobby, solaris was starting to sell an led light fixture for somewhere around $2500

1)Does anyone have any experience with led only (no others for supplemental lighting) where they have used them to grow sps corals for 1 year or longer?  I know a lot of beginning led users are happy with them but I am really just interested in what peoples experience has been for growing sps under led lights for 1+ years.  I am most interested in growing montipora.

2)What size aquarium and how many watts led are you using?

3)  Are you just as happy with the led lighting now as you were when you first got them?

Thanks for any help.  I want to prepare well and buy once instead of starting with something I won't like later on.  I plan on growing mainly montipora species however I will have some acros.

Welcome back!  By the way if your parent ever want to move I want to buy their house.

LED lights are certainly tried and true at this point.  Depending on your tank size I'd bet you can get fantastic lights on it for around $800 that will grow everything.  Lots of tanks out there to prove it.  In your area.... visit seti007 or bur01014 to see their tanks.  Or head on over to my house anytime.

Go to the new "TOTM" Forum and take a look at the August Tank Of The Month which has been running for 3 years with an LED light system for at leat the last 2 years...

I think you'll agree his corals are all doing quite well.

I love my leds. Im running 4 AI's over a 180. I am experimenting with 4 vho's to add the radiation theory but will probably just run the AI's over my new tank.

Indefinite hiatus from sw aquariums.

Once I have my glorious return I'll set back up the following.
50 Gallon rimless cube.

I haven't had mine for that long, but I went to Thu's house and his tanks are amazing and he is using the radion and some homemade LED's that are pretty amazing.

You can live for many causes, but you can only die for one. Pick that one very carfully.
