I heard that you can use a larger membrane in a smaller RO unit. Is this true? I don't remember who told me this, but they said the membrane housings were all the same it was just the thickness of the membrane itself that determined how much flow it can do. I was hoping to take my 75gpd unit and change the membrane out to a 100gpd, or maybe a 150gpd. Is this possible?

yes the housings are standard what you need is the correct flow restrictor for the membrane you are using.

So if you get a 100gpd membrane get the 100gpd flow restrictor.

The 75 gpd dow filmtec membrane is about the best on the market with the best rejection rate of something like 98%, the bigger membranes like 100, 150 I believe are only around 90% rejection rate, So you will use up your DI faster or get higher TDS water out of the higher membranes

I agree.
I have used 18, 24, 75 and 100 gph membranes in the same RO unit. I found a solution for having to acquire the correct flow restrictor, if it didn't come with the membrane. I use a simple inline valve that I adjust to get the maximum purified water output for each membrane.
