I'm curious about TDS ranges for water in peoples aquia. If anyone has a TDS meter and do not mind testing your tank water please post your numbers.

Cheers

Measuring a tank's TDS is ...um...not a worthwhile endeavor, no offense.  TDS stands for "total dissolved solids".  A TDS meter measures the number of solids dissolved into the water, and most only measure up to like 999 or something like that.

An aquarium is full of nothing BUT dissolved solids pretty much.  SALT is a dissolved solid.  Then fish poo, sand, etc.  So, a TDS meter will only tell you that you have stuff in your water.

And, if you're still curious, I was too at one point when I first got my TDS meter back in the day.  Not surprisingly, it read 999.  I'm guessing everyone else's will read that too.

Sorry to disappoint, but there are a lot of great tests for an aquarium...but using a TDS meter is not one of them.  Use it for your RO/DI unit, and that's about it.

True, it may not be the most enlightening parameter; however, I have a meter that measures much higher levels and want to make some correlations to other water chemistry and need some other tanks ranges to do so.

Suppose you are testing the salinity of your tank, not using refratometer... Say with a hydrometer it is giving you a very similar reading, not just the salt levels, just a thought.

Best

Sure, I understand that it might be interesting to see the amount of "stuff" in everyone's water, but I'm not aware of any TDS meters readily available in the hobby that go above 999 ppm.  (That's parts per million...rather a teeeeeny number...only 0.000999% of the water would have something in it.)  What brand do you have?  I've owned several and seen several...and just did a quick search for one that went above 999 (didn't find one).  I'm going to guess we all have a much, much, much higher TDS than 999 ppm with all the salt, poo, alk/mag/ca we dose, and all the pretty much microscopic algaes/pods/sponges spores, etc.

Ok, so if this is something you're truly interested in, then my reading is 999 (falsely).  What's yours?

If I remember correctly, seawater has a dissolved solids ratio of 35 parts per thousand (35ppt)... that would translate to a TDS of 35,000 ppm - if you could actually measure it.
