I don't see any problem with a 20% per month change out of the sandbed, in terms of taking too much sand out at any one time.
But I am wondering why you feel the need to do it at all?

Oh, so you are replacing a larger grained sand with some stuff a little bit finer grained?
That makes sense.
Yeah, I think that doing it a little at a time is the way to go then.

I changed about 40#'s of sand today and I'm exhausted! What a pain in the butt. Not looking forward to doing it again in 2 weeks.

Let me know if you want a hand. I can help out on a Friday afternoon or any time on a Saturday. Except for the Saturday of the WMAS BBQ.

Leopard wrasses are very hard to keep, most don't make it. It's hard to find a healthy one. They will look fine at first and then disappear in the sand and never come out. I'm probably 2 for 10.

Have you gotten a covered top yet? If so, any fairy wrasse would be fine. They sleep in the rocks by way of cocoon.
