I just set up my new rapid led lights and want to start getting into sps corals. Any recommendations on a hardy sps to start with?

birdsnest, montipora. I've got a 2 inch frag of birdnest if you want it. Free. I think I may even have a small frag of orange montipora, you can have it too if you want. Im in bountiful 801-916-5068. Let me know.

Montipora digitata! Super hardy and fast growing can get it in purple, green, pink, red, orange and maybe even blue if you are really lucky.
What?! You pooped in the refrigerator, and ate the entire wheel of cheese?! I'm not even mad.... That's actually amazing!

Everyone is giving good advice.  Don't forget to pay a little attention to your calcium levels now, at a minimum you might consider a balanced Calcium supplement with Mg in it and the purchase of a test kit.  Just remember, there is a wide range of acceptable calcium levels,  close to 350 is more than adequate, higher can produce faster growth but its difficult to keep things stable that high without some serious cost or effort.

Have fun- and by the way, none of these corals are going to care much if your calcium is a little low (thus great first SPS).... they all grow like weeds (if you think going from a 1 inch frag to a softball size in a year is a weed) with enough light, flow and stable water.
Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler -A.E.

Just a warning, if you think it isn't pretty now, it wont be pretty when it grows large.   When I setup my first tank I took brown digitita frags.   It grew well but as I added other corals I realized that it wasn't that appealing. In the end I didn't like it and it was difficult to kill/remove.

HAHA... sweet.  GLAD its working and your going for the LEDs.  Did you get some that you can dim the whites on to see the nice fluorescence at night with the 420-450 nm LEDs on alone?

Post a pic of the tank !

If you're looking for a very nice looking starter sps, look into montipora setosa! They're super bright and will be one of the last sps to brown out or die if something goes wrong. It's a little more expensive than m. digitata but you won't regret it. Fairly fast grower too. I got a $20 frag of this a few months ago and despite spending a lot of time being knocked over in the sand, it's been doing pretty well.
