Topic: Zoo growth boosting Posted: December 26 2012 at 10:08pm |
In my professional experience Zoa are easy to manipulate in 3 easy steps!!!! 1. Dosing vitamarin c by bright well aquatics( best vit c out there) 2. Dosing a good amount of strontium(thrive) 3. Instead of doing a 20% water change once every two weeks I do a 10% every week! Bonus: keep alkalinity 7.5-9.0 My red hornets went from 2 heads to 15 in 3 and a half weeks!!!:) so give this a try and tell me your results! Oh and make sure you have a grounding probe because zoas are very sensitive to electricity.

I think vitamin C in the water boosts the immunity of the polyps, protecting them from existing problems that may be in the system ( infection, bacteria, wounds etc etc )
I personally do small weekly water changes as well, and my zoas seem to love it.
I'm nervous about dosing anything I can't test, so I don't add strontium, but rely on the weekly water changes to restore the trace amounts of those minerals.

pete you can test for strontium, just takes forever lol. I bought some powdered sodium ascorbate, highly consentrated vit C. its in powder form and you can buy it at a health food store and make your own vit c solution more potent than anything out there and for way cheaper. Im having tyler at elite make me a 3 section dosing tank that this solution will be part of my auto dosing regiment. Now I just have to get the whole thing set up lol.

Premade Vitamin C solution for a doser won't work. Ascorbic acid in solution breaks down really fast which is why you have to mix a fresh batch and use it right away every time you dose. Otherwise after a couple days, you're dosing water and random non-vitaminC chemicals.

Once again, Vitamin C is linked with polyp health, not polyp growth. Don't be too quick to dump "miracle" chemicals in your tank. That being said, Vitamin C does have it's benefits in the reef when correctly dosed. I get amazing growth by feeding my corals regularly, but see no additional growth from dosing Vitamin C. If I have polyps that are recovering from fragging, they do indeed heal quickly when I dose Vitamin C, but there isn't any extra growth.
If Vitamin C boosts the growth of your zoanthids, it probably just means they were suffering from an injury, infection, or cut, and the injury is what caused stunted growth in the first place.
Tank stability is the best zoanthid growth booster. Do your water changes, make sure your parameters are in check, and make sure you top off more than once a month.

No I stopped dosing vitamin C. I strongly believe that it acts mostly as a source of carbon dosing which is a completely different topic.
The #1 best way to boost your zoanthids' growth is to find a spot they like and DON'T TOUCH THEM!

Yup, it's just like vodka dosing.
