I run the Warner Marine pellets and I think I am going to remove them. I have a red slime problem right now and I am wondering if they are the problem, not sure though. I haven't noticed an pro's to running them though so I think I am going to remove them.

I was running ecobak. I pulled it out as it was actually harming my tank more then helping. I started getting hair algae where I've never had it before in my tank, my bubble algae problem exploded. The pellets were constantly sticking together and not tumbling. My skimmer was easily large enough to handle it so I'm not sure what happened. I'm not the only person to experience this either. There are a ton of people on the internet that have had the same problem.
On the plus side I will say that my water was crystal clear. I mean really really clear.

Thanks for the info! That is interesting it would cause a bloom. Why do you think it did?
Is their claim it will remove both N03 and P04?
Tyler - your running ecobak too right?

I've heard that it may just be an ecobak problem/a problem with a specific batch that was made. I may try again later but at this point I get better results just running Phosban and a refuge.

I ran pellets for 3+ months and it was all good. Then I started getting a lot of algea and then literally over night I lost 5 big colonies of Sps and a dozen or so Frags. I forget the brand I was using but they came from avast.

I ran the Ecobak for about 5 months and started to lose some SPS and completely lost my ORA Red Planet that was growing like crazy. I removed them and am now using Rowaphos and carbon and have had 0 problems. I would not personally suggest them, but I believe I do have a small amount of the pellets left that I would be more than happy to give away of course at "your own risk".

I run the brs version and also had red slime and hair algae issues. Found out the red slime was from feading too much and the hair algae was too long of a photo period. All problems solved I can honestly say that I think I might have a couple crabs and maybe a snail or two, 70 gal cube, but the algae that usually builds up on my glass only needs to be cleaned once a week. I run a big carbon reactor from tcfab and flow a lot of water through it. I also tumble the hell out of the pellets too. Did everyone that had problems start your pellets with bacter vital kinda stuff and slowly add the correct amout of pellets at a time? Ive been running my pellets for almost a year now. Dont get me wrong Im still on the fence about the pellets but I can honestly say it beats phosban for sure.

I run my T-5s for 8 hours a day and my MHs for 2 hours a day, So I don't think my photo period is a problem for the algae. I drop photo period on my MHs about 2 months ago because Im trying to stop the aglae from growing.
We will see if the bio-pellets were the problem because now the pellets are in the trash.

How was the preoblem before the pellets? If you trash the pellets you should run phosban at least! whats your cleaning crew like? I have a lawnmower blenny that is a algae eating fool too.

I have just started using the Two Fishes brand of these. After 1 month in my display I have had aprox 10ppm drop in nitrate, a noticable differance in coral color, increased water clarity, and decrease in algea growth. I am so far sold on the product however I have not used them long enough to decide. I am trying these in a few other tanks as well.

This is on my keep it simple tank. It is a 46 gallon bow front. The only filtration is a hob skimmer. The pellets are in the final chamber of the skimmer.
