My yellow tang keep kicking up my sand. He swims down to the sand bed and then it looks like he's scratching his side on the sand. Is this normal? Should I be worried about possible parasites? I don't care if he does it, but he seems to always do it right where there is strong current so he kicks up the sand and it floats around the tank for a bit before settling.

He scratches cause he itches. Ick, velvet or something similar. (It could be a dang alien trying to enter its body by unconventional methods.)

How long have you had the fish? Any new introductions? Any spots on the fish, lack of appetite, or acting lathargic?

Nope. He's acting fine. He's been in the tank for about 3 weeks now. No spots, no lethargy, no lack of appetite. He's been doing it since I bought him. But again, no signs that he's stressed or any signs that the other fish in the tank are stressed either.

Are you feeding Emerald Entree marinated in a drop or two of Garlic Oil per cube thawed without water?
Is there a Cleaner Shrimp in the tank?
Have you seen any unexplained Crop Circles in the neighborhood?

I fee a flake that has garlic. I haven't added garlic to food myself because I've never had a need. No outbreaks of ich or anything. I think that flake (although lower in garlic overall) is heading off any problems.
No cleaner shrimp. That's essentially what I'm wondering if maybe he's in need of a good cleaning due to parasites.
No crop circles. Although my wife did have the "special" at our local diner and her stomach has been hurting ever since.......

 A fish scratching itself like that is usually a sign of the Ich parasite which lives in all tanks, no matter how hard we try to eradicate it.
I would not trust flake food with added garlic. First of all, flake food is disgusting. After I saw it being made I decided then and there that it was for emergencies only. Other than making your own frozen fish food, which some people here do, Emerald Entree is the best because it has lots of algae for the herbivores and several kinds of shrimp and other meaty morsels.
When stinky Garlic Oil is used it keeps fish from scratching. The most common cause being the Ich parasite, the very thing Garlic Oil is good at controlling. Cleaner shrimp are more expensive than a $5 bottle Garlic Oil gel caps.
Give your wife a Garlic Pill from the bottle you are going to buy for your fish. After squeezing out the drops I need for the fish food, I actually do pop the remainder of the pill into my own mouth and wash it down with water.

They like the flake and they seems healthy. I can't see any reason to stop. It's disgusting to see a cow being butchered and processed but I'm still going to eat steak and hamburgers.  I feed a pinch of flake daily. Frozen mysis or brine twice a week and I'll throw in a 1/4 sheet of dried seaweed or another veggie sheet about 3 times a week. I'll try soaking my mysis in garlic next time I feed it. I'll probably buy a cleaner shrimp at some time. I really like shrimp. I used to feed my peppermint shrimps by hand.... till they disappeared.
