Topic: To Ozone or Not to Ozone.... Posted: March 15 2011 at 9:49am |

Im curious about ozone and want to learn more about it. (No my fish dont have ich)
What is a good brand? Do you need a orp prob? How do people have it hooked up? What are the benefits and the down sides to having ozone? I see ones that have air dryers built in, do you need anything else?
What difference have you seen when adding it? to your fish and or corals?
Any other input would be interesting thank you.

I don't have any experience with ozone but am also interested in learning more about it. I'll be following this thread.

Well Im really curious and apparently no one uses it. I really want to know. Ive read that it really does clear up your water... but that the nutrients the corals would get are taken away. So it has benefits and down sides.

There's people out there who have used it, they just haven't spoken up about it yet. I tried to get started but all of my experiences in trying to buy the ozone generators second hand have started with the units not working from the point I turn them on the first time. Wish I had more to share. I too am interested in knowing a lot more about it.

Here is a pretty good article on Ozone in Reefkeeping Magazine. http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-03/rhf/index.php

I used ozone on my 225.
I think it helps with water clarity and will make your skimmer more effective (if you run the O3 through the skimmer).
Right now I don't have plans to use ozone on my new setup.
I always recommend a controller on tanks of less than 125 gal, or if your ozone unit is not adjustable for output. I just think it is safer that way.

Ozotech units are very nice, might want to look into that brand.

I ran ozone for many years until I started probiotics/vodka dosing. Fearing the ozone would kill off beneficial bacteria, I discontinued its use. Knock on wood, since the switch in approx. Sept. '10, things have never been better.
