Corey Kruitbosch
Check out the PowerPoint presentation on
Corey's tank by clicking

(presentations are very large a high speed connection
is recommended)
1) Your name, location and occupation. Include how long you have
been an aquarist, how long you have been a WMAS member and how you
heard of our club.
Name: Corey Kruitbosch
Location: Ogden, UT
Occupation: 3D Artist / Game Developer
How long have you been in the hobby? 2.5 years
How long have you been a member of the club? 2 years
How did you hear about the WMAS? Reef Central
2) Describe your tank. Acrylic or glass? Size in dimensions and
gallons. How long has it been set up?
Acrylic / Glass: Glass
Size in gallons: 60g and 10g frag tank.
Dimensions: 24x24x24 and 12x12x13
Age: (how long has the system been running) 1.5 years
Main tank is SPS Only
3) Describe your lighting system, including your photo-period. Add
what you would change if you could.
Lighting consists of:
1 24 TekLight 4 24w T5 HO bulbs
1 24 Maristar 1 250w DE and 2 T5 HO bulbs
T5 Bulbs are (4)Blue+, (1)11K Aqua, (1)6500K
MH Bulb is a 14K Phoenix
This system works very well and Im very happy with the lighting.
However, if I were to do it over I would probably just go with 2
250w DE pendants.
Frag tank has 1 150w DE 20K Ushio
4) Describe your filtration system. Include: How deep is your sand
bed, plenum, your skimmer size and model and how long you run it,
your circulation pumps (how many and their size in gallons per
hour), your sump/refugium including Reverse Daylight, biowheels and
skilters, HOT systems, clean up crew.
2.5 sandbed
QuietOne 4000 (about 900gph) return
Mag 12 on a closed loop w/ SQWD
EuroReef CS5-3 Skimmer
Red Sea Ozone 50 mg/hr Ozone / Milwaukee Controller (run at 350)
5) What are your maintenance techniques? Include water change
schedule.
5% weekly water change
Empty skimmer 2 times per week (not nearly enough for my wife)
Clean ozone probe weekly
Replace carbon bi-weekly
6) What additives do you use? Kalkwasser, Strontium, Molybdenum,
Iodine, Magnesium, Other
None
7) Describe your feeding philosophy. Include your schedule, and what
you prefer to feed your system?
Brine once daily Cyclopeeze Occasionally
8) DIY ie, Calcium reactor, stand / hood, skimmer, sump, ect. Any
Do-it-yourself items of interest? Web-sites that you may have
referenced?
Glass tank was all DIY. I ordered the glass and used the guidelines
on GARFs website. There is a thread on RC documenting the process.
If was a REALLY fun project
9) Stand and Canopy
The stand is a custom black powder coated metal frame. I used black
acrylic to fill in the gaps and shelves. It is a 40 stand. I have
found this to be a perfect height for viewing. I wanted a wide stand
so that I could have a frag tank next to my main tank.
10) Items of interest: Favorite or unusual Fish, coral, or
invertebrate
Favorite Fish: Flame Hawk
Favorite Coral: ROAB Turquoise and Blue Aculeus
11) Can you include a table showing your elemental levels of Ca+,
alkalinity, S.G., temperature, pH and other interesting testables?
CA stays at 400
Alk in in the 9 range
Temp 80
S.G. is 1.024
pH stays in the range of 7.8 8.1
12) What experiences and challenges have you had with the tank? Any
lessons learned? Is there anything you do differently than others
(or differently than previously)? If so, why?
Stability levels of CA and ALK were an issue until I added a CA
reactor.
Heat has always been an issue until I added central air this year. I
still run a fan, but the temp of my tank has been MUCH more stable.
Other than a couple of slight modifications I feel like this system
is very nice and stable. Im very happy with it and the growth that
I have had over the last year.
The challenge of setting up an SPS only tank has been great fun.
Here is a list of the SPS corals that I have in this tank.
