I bought this tank from Kahuna last weekend during the tour and I have
been racking my brain trying to figure out the best way to plumb it.
here is a picture that kahuna had posted, What I am trying to do is
figure out what would be the best way to get good flow through the tank
using the existing bulkhead fittings, I have a sqwd that is working
really well in my 40, that I want to use in this tank, but I would need
a better pump. Also the closed loop that I have been reading up
on also looks like a good plan too.
any ideas?
all fittings are 1" except for the one on the left which is 3/4
Oh, and I have a 20 gallon sump for it and a 20 gallon fuge.
for the fuge I figured that I could "t" a line from the mag 3 that I have for the return and bulkhead the two 20's together.

I am going to bump this for Brian. I am also looking at going SCWD/SQWD and am interested in hearing what folks think about it and the flow rates. 3IQ calls out the below flow rates. I would need to get a SMALLER pump! What the... Also, nothing on the website regarding the larger unit.

My thoughts were to change the middle bulkhead fitting to a 1 1/2 inch
bulkhead,(used for drain, or how much can a 1" line pipe flow ) change
the 3/4 inch bulkhead to a 1" to match the other side, then I could
plumb the sqwd under the tank between the left and right line.
what flow/pump would be good for this tank?
what would be best two twin nozzle lockline's sitting on top of the pvc
or two loops of 3/4 inch pvc pipe like a two part manifold, the
other possibilty was to run to a 3/4 inch pvc pipe on the left and
right of the tank with two or three nozzles only there.
there has to be someone that has done something similar???????

The SCWD gives you a maximum recommended flow rate of 1400 GPH. I would do my best to maximize that. You can do a bigger pump, but it would void the wattanty if they figure it out. This is the biggest obstacle I am having with the SCWD. Not enough flow for me. But either way, you're going to be restricted by the 3/4" restrictions no matter what line size you have before and after. Then your pump may try to compensate with increased pressure which can cause other issues. JMO

yes those look good, looks like the plan at the moment is to use
the two 1" pipes on the right as a drain line, I'll make a skimmer box
that will sit on the top of both of them.
then use the one inch in the back as a inlet line from a external pump in bottom.
the supply line will go up into a horizontal bar that will feed 4-6
lockline nozzles, I am thinking of running 4 for now and plugging the
other two(for future flow) maybe run a line up each side for cross flow.
the 3/4" line will go unused for now, as far as the sqwd I think
that the loss from this will be too great, for the gph that I need.

Marine Aquatics has recommeded a external pump(don't know what
gph it was, but it was using 1 1/4 input and output fittings, I think
comparable to the mag 24-36 They also gave me most of the ideas used
above.
