Has anyone ever wired up a computer fan into a nano hood?  I just set up a 5.5G Eclipse hex tank as a nano reef.  Since the eclipse filtration system is in the hood, and the whole hood is pretty well closed off, I was thinking about installing a 2" fan I cannibalized from an old computer power supply.  I'll probably put it above the filter media to increase gas exchange.  Problem is - I have no idea how to wire the fan up.

I have 2 fans with similar power ratings (1 requires DC 12V  0.14Amp, and the other requires the same voltage with 0.31Amp current).  I'm assuming I could just find a transformer somewhere that steps down the voltage and outputs the right current and wire it in directly.  Just wondering if anyone has ever done it, or if anyone has suggestions/warnings or anything.

That is excatly how you do it. The amperage and voltage do not have to be exact. A little higher amperage would be better than lower than the fan draws, so the transformer doesn't have to overwork.
 
One thing that can actually help a lot is to crack open the top just an inch or two. Some tops actually have a short support for exactly that purpose. Then a fan is not needed.
