Can you use any regulator on your c02 system or does it have to be one for th aquarium the reason I ask is I just got a c02 tank from a freind and it has one on it already but he used it for brewing his own beer.Will it work or do I need a new one

It should work just fine.  You need a needle valve to make fine adjustments, and a shut off solenoid if you plan to use a controller.
