As far as lighting control, I look at it this way - the sun comes up and the sun goes down. The lights go on and the lights go off. Very simple. Having the lights separated on more than one timer can easily give the dawn/dusk effect. This effect is built in on my system because it is in a south facing  window, but I still have the five light banks go on/off at different times with three $10 grounded timers.

Aloha,
Mark Hug

Mark is correct, keep it simple, but when you talk about "control" with LEDs, you have to sometimes fine tune the different color combination of LEDs, so it's nice to have a controller to do that with. Sometimes you want a little more blue in the evenings. I just found out yesterday from Ecotech that I get more par out of the 12k settings than the 10k settings, so I switched. 12k for 4 hours and 20k for the rest of the day the sun is up.

Good point. If those settings can be done within the unit manually, there is usually very little need to change them, while the daily on-off is handled by the timers/controller. I wonder if any of this is helping omj? Are you there or did your head spin off your shoulders? Smile

Sure...simple is good. But, there's something to be said for a tank with just the violets on. Wow...to me, that's worth a pretty penny.

Cool Cool. I've got to come see your tank again. The last time I saw it was RT 2013. I'll bet it's 100x better now, right? Turn on the violets for me?
