Just bought a new ballast to replace one that went out in the hood of my 12 gal nano.  Decided to get the ballast out of the hood, where it probably went bad because of the excess heat (fans went out long time ago).

I want to put the ballast behind the tank somewhere, so I bought extra wire to accommodate that.  Once I wire it all up, then what?  Do I just let it hang behind the tank?  Build it a nice little box?  Screw it onto a piece of wood or something?  If anyone's done something like this, and has a good/cheap/easy solution, let me know.  Just thought I'd let those who've gone before me put in their two cents before I just went ahead and thought up some random solution by myself.

Thanks, in advance.

Just remember the heat issues you had in the hood would still exsist if it was built into a box.

I don't know, but I think the heat issues came from the two 24watt PC's right next to it.  And that's just a guess, that heat had anything to do with the ballast going out.

So, screw it to a plank of wood and set it behind the tank?  Sound like a good idea to anyone?

I did the "screw it to a piece of wood" thing with my old lighting.  Works well if you can keep it hidden so it's not unsightly.

Anything that will lower the potential for water causeing problems with it is a good thing.  Like don't set it on the floor where an overflow accident could get to it.  (He says as he looks over to see what his current set-up is and notices that he has placed all three MH ballasts directly on the floor of the stand.EmbarrassedI guess some changes are in order at this house too.  I better get to work on that.
