I have had a blue Tang in my tank for two years.  Occasionally he get sick, but not very often.  It's never really bothered him.  I have six Tang's currently in my tank and he is one of my favorites

If you're having good luck with other fish I would bet you'd have luck with the blue Tang.

I think you would do well with one especially if you are running ozone or a UV Sterilizer.

I've had my first and only hippo for over 3 1/2 years now. I can't remember the last ich episode, but it had to of been 2 or more years ago.
She has more than tripled in size , and now that she is in my big tank, she is really happy.

I've seen some great success stories, if you can just get them through the first six weeks of acclimation, it seems.  I'm debating the gamble of purchasing one in my mind.

They are fairly hardy (IMO) if you buy a larger one. The small ones (although cute) have very bad odds. I've talked to a LFS about them and they strongly recommended not buying any smaller hippos.

I have a large one in my 210G and occasionally he gets a spot or two of ich and then my cleaner shrimp will take care of it and he looks great the next day. I have a small one in my 40G and he has never had a spot of ich. My small one is quite thin but I don't feed that tank a bunch. But he has been in that tank over a year. Great fish!!!

I love my hippo! He was the last Tang I put into mine! He's been there for at least 4 or 5 months.

I agree 100% with Shane's post.  The recommendations I've heard have been to buy one that is 3 inches or larger.  I've never had experience with smaller ones, but my understanding is ones that are an inch or less have a very poor chances of living in an aquarium very long.  That's not to say they never live but I personally wouldn't take a chance with one especially since the others in my tank or so large.

I took the plunge.  I bought a healthy-looking 3-1/2" hippo tang and I hope he makes it.  He was swimming around the 120 last night, exploring everything for about five minutes, and wedged himself in a coral head after I turned out the lights early.  I can't say how he will do, but many people I've spoken with have been successful lately, even with smaller ones.  I just wish the tank-raised hippo tangs were delivered to LFS's a bit bigger.

Wait, are you saying it is tank raised?  If so I'll call BS.

Nope, but tank raised are available in 1" to 1-1/2" sizes.

I'm confused. Is it really possible there are tank-raised Hippo tangs available?

Bad marketing.  Some have been captive reared but none are tank raised.  If someone is selling you tank raised regal blues they are misled.  Don't fall for it.

Sorry, Adam is right- they are "captive reared", and yes, they are available.  However, most LFS people I talked to said that there wasn't any advantage to them because of their puny size.  I'm not trying to mislead anyone, Adam.
