What are the best inexpensive NO bulbs to use?  Mark, you said you found some full spectrum NO bulbs real cheap at the last meeting.  Where did you find these at and what brand were they?  These will be a semi-temporary solution so I don't want to spend tons of money on them.  Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would look into those T-5 setups.  I realize they aren't quite NO Flourescent but boy are they cheap!  The 24" bulb/ballast combos are like $20.

Adam

Come to a meeting, they’re fun!

I'll definatly look into T-5s if they are that cheap.  I already have a ballest and fixture that will hold 3 48" NOs, so if I can just find 3 good NOs I'll be set untill I can get an MH+VHO setup.

Check Home Depot, Lowes, Kmart, Target, Walmart, ect.   Look for a daylight bulb (5500 to 6500 K).  Phillips, GE, Osram... they all make a daylight bulb.

Jared,

I have a couple of 36" NO actinic bulbs (used) that you are welcome to have. They would probably get you by until you upgrade to MH. Hey - I may have a dual 175w MH ballast for sale soon

I do have an older (non-electronic) VHO ballast for sale. It will power 2 x 140w VHOs. Works great! I just ran into a great deal on an old IceCap. Let me know if you're interested.

As Jon said, it's off to the hardware store for everything but blue. I have not found any replacements for blue/actinic tubes. The URI Super Actinic R seem to be the best IMO. Even better/brighter than the original actinic, Phillips Actinic 03!

I have the old blue and one more of those white tubes, if you want them. You really ought to add one plant growth/aquarium tube to enhance color and coralline/zooxanthellae algae growth. That makes three tubes!

Be aware, a 48" T5 does not put out as much light (lumens/power/energy) as a 40W NO Fluorescent tube.

I really like the look of the white one you gave Trevor, especially compared to the one available at home depot, and an old blue tube is better than anything I currently have.  I'll send you a PM the next time I'm down that way and hopefully I can pick them up from you.

Thanks

Maybe I already promised the old blue to Trevor, I can't remember, but it's time to replace some actinics so if you need a blue and an actinic will do, let me know.
