I am in the process of putting a hang on the back acrylic refugium together and would like to know what you all think about substrate options.
Has anyone out there tried the miracle mud or any or the like products?
What is the best substrate to use and how deep should it be?
Thanks
Jeremy
MM is a waste of money. Here is a picture.
It's mostly silica sand.
You could get mud from your yard and it would be just as useful.
I use the same substrate as in my tank. Utah Oolitic sand with a CaribSea Special Grade Aragonite cover layer.

Marcus, or any others
There is also a product by caribsea called mineral mud $19.00/gal. Have you heard anything about it? I saw the araga-mud it runs about $20.00 for 30lbs.
Thanks
Jeremy
That's a very reasonable price for mud if it's even a little better than dirt from my backyard!
I also have acquired extra buckets of Utah Oolitic. Seems we get over-zealous when collecting! Some of it will be at the Coral Propagation meeting on Thursday along with extra Utah Aragonite Rock.
