So I finally got around to doing a salt water tank. I thought I would show the build.

The first night I set it up. Crush coral, bonneville dry rock, emperor 400 filter heater, marineland power heads.
Cloudy water

Clear

Some live rock!

More live rock! Thanks to (phys)

Got the hang on back skimmer and uv sterilizer. Lots of bubbles

Got the aqueon led

Built my first sump (and decided to go bigger lol)

Then I started buying expensive stuff:
5 stage uv filter

Mp10es

Ai vega

40 gal breeder made into a sump ( I know my sump is bigger then my dt )

Decided I needed a bigger stand, so I built one.

And all the pluming, filter sock, overflow, pump, ato, bigger heater, 30 lb more live rock, Fuji mud, and some algea.

Up and running!

Redoing the aqua scape

Again...

And again...

So that's the up to date build, I just did the picture above last night. And got a bunch of corals from a buddy. From start to today I am about 2 months in from first tank setup. Will keep posting as things change and hopefully go to a bigger tank when my wife gets over the shock $$$ of this one

Love the stand it is nice looking. You might want to get ahold of Eric at aquarium creations and have him make you a drilled rimless that would fit perfectly on that stand. Just a thought.

I have rock n rubble in my sump like you do but in about 1 month my nitrates got high and it was because the flow thru sump was pretty low and detritus built up, I can't tell your flow from the pics but if you see your nitrates creep up throw a power head on the rock side of your sump with it blasting down on the rocks in your sump. I like your stand man!

Thanks! Yea, I'm thinking down the road that will be the plan. I built it so I could put something around a 90 gal on it latter. I'm trying to avoid having to do things twice.

So I've had the day off so I decided to take some pix of the coral in my tank

I'm still trying to find the best flow and light for some of them. But for now I'm going to try and keep my sh*t hooks out of the tank. I figure as hard as it may be I'm probable better off leaving it be.

An updated pix of the tank. Starting to wish I would have started out bigger. I'm hoping if I take good care of this one it will grow into a 120 gal tank on its own. But till then I will enjoy what I have. Enjoy!

Very nice man! I have pretty much all the same things you do from the tank, the original.stand (p.o.s.) and lighting. I do like your rock setup a whole hell of a lot more than mine! Looks great.

Thanks, Yea that original stand doesn't leave any room for filtration. How do you run your light as far as intensity and time? I'm still trying to figure out best flow, lighting, and coral placement.

As far as flow, I think turbulent is better. And also make sure your surface churns as well to get good gas exchange. Research the coral to know what kind of flow and light they do best with and arrange accordingly. Photoperiod maybe 8-10 hrs. Looks good! I'm envyous.

This is an awesome tank! has it really only been set up since Jan 2013? Have you had any issues with cyno? What salt mix are you using and what do you target for your parameters, alk, ca, mag, ph, etc?

I have a small cyno bloom, I've been using a cheap bucket of salt that I got from pet smart. Was trying to go cheap when I started it. Going to switch to red sea when it runs out. hope it does better or compares with what I'm using. All my readings are on the dot, my cal, kh are a-little bit high and ph around 8.2. Not sure on my mag ( my kit doesn't test for it ) I think it's just excessive filtration. I was using fuel when I spot feed, but I've been laying off it wile the small cyno bloom is hopefully on its way out. Thanks for the complement.

I'm def no expert, but I run my sol at 55% at max for 2 hours. Sunrise is at 8am, which takes almost 2 hours to get to 35%, sunset is around 4pm but takes until 8pm to be fully off.

Placement... Well I have zoas high and mid, mushrooms high, mid, and bottom. Candy canes mid, all sps is mid-high to high. I just place stuff... If it likes it than I leave it. If not I'll move it around until I find the sweet spot.
