So i was at a lfs today and was told by the worker that you can have a puffer or lionfish in a reef tank as long as you dont have shrimp since they will leave crabs alone.

Would like some input or personal experience please...

Yeah they leave crabs alone for the most part but eat snails, corals, clams, shrimp, and other small fish.... Not reef safe IMO at all. I have seen successful reefs with dwarf lionfish but it is not very common. There is some puffers that are less aggresive than others. I would never keep one in a reef tank though unless you are planning on having just soft corals like mushrooms, xenia, leathers and GSP.

For the most part they leave crabs alone like wicked said... Mine will occasionally nip at them in my FO tank but he hasnt succedded yet!
Lionfish i have seen in a reef tank as well. They wont eat crabs necessarily but they will go after your shrimp and perhaps other small fish that will fit in its mouth. It should be added last if you were to put one in there. But, remember lion fish have poisionous fins and can sting you if you go in and add another coral... I wouldnt recommend them but it is possible.
This is more than a hobby; its a lifestyle.
