Glue?

Just wanting to get some frag glue and was wondering what everyone else is using before i buy... its for softies mostly.

+1 on the rubberband for softies and don't worry by the time it begins to corrode they will attach then you just pop off the band

Oh and thats just for softies For anything else I use super glue gel. This method has taken a long time to perfect but it works great. Just put a dap of super glue on your finger about the size of a pencil eraser and wipe it on the rock where you want the coral. Then put the same amount on the end of the coral. Then mix the two together it works best to twist the coral around until you have little strings of super glue. Hold it there for about 30 sec and then it should stay

I have used gel super glue on kenya tree and xenia, mushrooms...just about anything.  Tom miller, and Jim showed me that trick 7-8 years ago.

David, What's the trick? Wrapping a thread of glue around the frag?

Tom's method for mushrooms was to cut them into pieces and set the pieces in a deep bowl of small rubble in a corner of the tank where the flow can't blow them away. When the Mushroom pieces attached to the rubble and started looking like little mushrooms, he would set the new mushroom in a hole on a rock or superglue the rubble in place in the tank. Place a larger than normal glob of Superglue on the rubble and set it into the tank holding it to the new position for 30 seconds. Be careful not to glue your finger to the rocks.

Stony coral frags out of the tank, dab a little glue on the skeleton that is to be connected to the rock and set it there. In a minute set the frag/rock into the water. If the area where you need to set it has a lot of flow, just dip it and pull it back out. It takes 2-10 minutes for a larger glob of glue to set hard. Water makes it set. SPS frags can be out of the water for 10-30 minutes if necessary, no problem.

That glue might be a disaster for frags in the aquarium. It also has questionable solubility in water. This is from the MSDS sheet for E6000 glue we see a good amount of VOC's(volitile organic compounds):
DOT Classification: Tetrachloroethylene mixture,
HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION OR BYPRODUCTS
1. Toxic/irritating gases and fumes.
2. Hydrogen chloride, CO2, Simple Hydrocarbons, Phosgene, and Chlorine.

Looking at the MSDS for Superglue I see that the VOC's are so minimal that California gives it's approval. The MSDS says it does not dissolve but hardens completely in water.

Mark Im just wondering because ive read online of other people using it. But I wasnt so sure.

Stay away from E6000 for gluing your frags. Yes, it is cheap but I just tried this stuff and it sucks. If your not careful the water will wash this stuff off your rock and on to the rock below. It was a big disaster for me. Good thing I wasn't doing this in my tank. I was doing it in a bucket 

i never did use it. Still have some just stickin with the glue from the dollar store!

I use IC-GEL. I have used dollar store superglue  but I think you get more in a tube of ic-gel than you would in the same "dollar for dollar" amout of superglue. And it is better in my opinion. (thicker)

E6000 is not for gluing frags to rocks. It is an adhesive for gluing acrylic to glass and has to be used on a clean dry surface. It's reef safe after it cures.
