Topic: Any cheap option LED? Posted: December 07 2010 at 8:46pm |
So I have a 130d red sea max and I would like to retro in some LED's. I
looked at Mojo's thread here: http://www.reef2reef.com/forums/led-lighting-specific/45815-mojos-red-sea-max-led-transformation-2.html and love the color so I would like something
similar but don't have the $250 to put out. I have seen these on
ebay, I am only keeping mostly softies and zoas along with a couple rose
bubble tip anemones so other than the anemones nothing needs really
bright light. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220687866932&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:ITAny idea if these would grow what I have?

Hmmm, those look like just the old L.E.D's that really don't give off the right color spectrum and arent really that bright, I think you would have a problem getting enough par to the bottom of most any tank. Most of the new LED's that are out now are using the CREE bulbs. Something like this I think might do well on a refugium but I would be worried about using it on a display tank.

You could run some PAR30/PAR38 bulbs. I would think you would need 3 of them. Maybe 2 of them if you use 80 degree optics and mount them a little closer to the tank.

I would like to keep the stock hood otherwise those par 30/38 would be a great option.

jackie, how many led do you want? Figure $115/dozen for a dimmable driver, maybe $15 less for non-dimming. That would include a heatsink etc.
If you decide to do it, I wired mine up and soldered it all together for my bc29, I can help you get it put together.

My hubby can wire it all up that's not a problem, I think I will just have to start saving up. Check the first link that is the look I want:) Also if you can point me in the direction of where you got your stuff from that would be great! If I do 24 I think that is what he has in his then it should run me about $230?
