I think it would be a great idea to have a PayPal link on our page for members to pay their dues.  It sure would make it a lot easier on the members who don't make the meetings nor like to use the USPS system!

Have an icon to "become a member" and wham - the club is paid.

Just my .02

I think that the club should allow 25 post and then if you wish to contiune to gain knowledge, support, and deals, you must become a member...... That is just my 2 cents or 25.00 bucks.....Either way, I think its the best 25 Ive ever spent... If you dont agree, you should not have the advantage of club... Or maybe members should trade and or sell only to member thus giving incentive to join... Just a thought

The paypal option on this site is actually quite popular.  We've had about 20 people pay that way in just the last couple months.

I agree with Connie somewhat! but i still want to get people interested in the hobby. If they don't want to pay for a membership the price of frags at the propagation meetings should be raised to them. $24.00 in this hobby means nothing!!!!!!

Hey - $24 could mean a couple frags

Anyway, I agree with Connie - non-members should have a limited number of posts (she suggested 25) and then be alerted to join before more posts are allowed.  It's a club benefit and more posts take up server space which is not free.

I have to disagree. There are many people on this board who are not members, however they give freely of their knowledge. The board has always been a free resource to everyone. I would hate that to turn into a "paid" subscription, and turn valuable resources away.

IMO, everyone is welcome on this board and at our meetings.  I would never turn away anyone who wanted to participate just because they didn't pay their dues.  But, this club can not function without membership dues.  It does take money to run this club (rent on meeting place, guest speakers, etc.).  If you enjoy attending meetings you really should consider paying your dues.  It's the "adult" thing to do .

Ok, after reading the discussion - I agree that this messageboard is a place to listen and learn.  Hopefully, when people become serious about the hobby, they'll join.  If not, that's ok too.

Jeff,  hopefully I explain this correctly.  I should leave it for someone else, but I'll give it a shot.  Arjen and Eric at Marine Aquatics sponsored customers' membership dues for the remainder of 2004.  It was a wonderful gesture on their part; a real win-win deal.

^^^^ This is why my wife and I joined^^^^  well that and we met people we liked.  If we were limited on the forum coming to meetings we would have just kept doing things on our own with other websites and the lfs and written WMAS off as being an elitest club that was more about itself then the hobby. (sorry if I ruffled some feathers)

Oh, my first meeting was the last coral cutting seminar and one thing that I was surprised about was that there wasn't too much difference between members and nonmembers price for frags. I think it was 5/8 resectively? I wouldn't limit who could sell to who (seller's option of course) or anything like that but maybe I would bump up the price on frag's for nonmembers to $10 if something must be done

The frags for non-members is $10.00 on the frags that the club supplies. What i don't get is the fact that we have 691 forum members and only 180 that pay. The club as Jon said has expenses for speakers and other functions. Knowledge passed on is a good thing and I have used it more than most members, but if we had a higher percentage of paying members we could do more for everyone! Why should the few pay for the many? If people want to bring frags and sell them at the meetings that's great, and i do buy from alot of people but a little more money in the club will benifit everyone.

Oops

True we have 691 forum members, but over 200 hundred of them have never made a post.  I'm curious how many forum members are active or paid members.

Certainly. Either at the meeting or onlne. If you choose to pay online, I believe that choosing the route of "previous paid member" will deduct $24 from your CC.

Personally I don't think we should even charge for memberships..... but for 9 years straight now I've been out voted (unanimously against me, I believe).
