 Topic: Naso Tang Treat

I'd like to give my Naso Tang a little treat to fatten him up. I bought some sheet algae at the store and he seems to pick at that. He didn't really like romaine lettuce. Any other suggestions that you feed your Naso Tangs to give them a treat? I'd be interested to see what other people are feeding their Naso for a treat.

Green leafy veggies, nori, sea veggies, brine, flake, etc. My tangs love it all!.
Just a note, my tangs never seemed to gain weight on romain but the sea
veggies (green and purple sea weed) seem to be doing the trick.

Little treats do not fatten. Solid nutritious foods make a fish healthy. Have you considered that a Tang is an herbivorous fish? In the wild and in the aquarium it is constantly picking at algae. It is like a cow. It's digestive system is built to eat large amounts of algae every day. That's what makes both a cow, and a Tang, healthy and happy.

I have
1 yellow tang
1 blue tang
1 powder blue tang
1 blonde naso tang
I rarely, if ever see my tangs grazing on algae. I try to feed my tangs twice at night, once at 4pm and again at 8:30pm. most of the time its once.
I always read that tangs are voracious algae eaters but I never see it with my tangs, unless they just stop eating when they see me.

I was talking with Kevin today about Nori. I've never tried it so I might go buy some at the asian store. Sounds like it's pretty healthy for tangs. Thanks for your input guys (and gals).

My reef has a Scopus who will not touch hair algae. But, Robs tank has
yellow tangs and they do not have one speck of algae in their tank, even
the glass!
I keep a piece of Nori on my magfloat whenever I can.....

They get accustomed to the food they are given. If there is little algae in the tank, they shift to eating the foods provided. Herbivores can shift back to eating more algae if it is provided and other foods are decreased or removed from their diet. I try to make sure my tank has a natural growth of the types of food these fish naturally eat.
