Topic: Snail spawning? with pic Posted: February 18 2005 at 9:55pm |
I just took this pic tonight and it’s the second time in 2 weeks they have
done it. Am I correct in that it is spawning? This time the water got a
Smokey tint to it like when you are in a bar and then go home after a few
hours.

I was almost going to make fun of the fact that people on this board
actively take pictures like this, but I remember doing the same thing a
month or so ago. If any of the pictures turned out good enough I would
also have posted them. My pictures were of one Stomotella that was
blowing smoke rings. I was amazed, ever few seconds a puff of
smoke would shoot out and I guess it had enough force to form into a
smoke ring.

I've had this happen too over the past couple of days, yesterday I too woke up to the familiar smokey bar for a reef tank. (my Corals are looking great though)

I'm wondering if my snails did this. I purchased live sand about 4 months ago and now I see teeny tiny little snails here and there. Wondering where they came from . . . either the present inhabitants or the came in on something. These teeny tiny ones are 1-2 mm in length, maximum. Different color shells too . .

All looks good in my tanks also! Just don't know what it was. Am I right
in spawning?

biodork, i've got what i would guess are 50+ of those guys in my 30
gallon tank! i don't know what they are because they never seem
to grow bigger than about 2-3mm. they typically come out at night
though and just COVER the glass. they seem to be doing a lot more
good than harm though so i can't complain.

Joe,
I think you are safe to assume that they are spawning

I'm a proud parent of about 50 to 60 small snails, I found them the other day all over my tank.SO Sad the just going to end up being fish food.

nick, you probably have hundreds in there. I've found that I see most of my baby snails after lights are out and my moon light is on.
