My return pump is on its last legs so looking for some input on replacements.

Currently run a Rio 14HF and like how quiet it is. Might just go for another one.

Any suggestions on pumps in same category? Must be quiet and reliable.

If you haven't already bought a new pump, I can recommend a Quiet One 4000.  I use the next model down (the 3000) and it has been a really reliable pump that is very quiet.  If you shop around online, you can find it fairly cheap and it works as either an external or submersible.  It is nice and quiet, and I have never had mine seize.  It is fairly simple to disassemble for cleaning/maintenance.

I've had great luck with the Japanese motor Iwakis, but have used Mags lately cause they've come with tanks as I downsized. They are not the most efficient and as such put out a bit of heat, but are economical to purchase. Seems like Eheim is pretty highly rated too.

I guess if I were in your shoes I'd get some opinions like this and then do the math. Makes sense IMO to spend a bit more up front and save the money in the long haul with an energy efficient pump.
