QuoteReplyTopic: Lights, etc. for small nano frag tank Posted: July 28 2012 at 1:14pm
So I bought this small 12 gal used nano tank -- nothing in the hood works. I don't want to use the hood anyway. I'm going to use this for my first small frag tank! Does anyone know if there are inexpensive clip on lights for a tank this small? The outside measurement is only 14 inches wide. I only plan to have softies as frags. My corals are growing too rapidly in my Biocube so I need to think about thinning them, and since I know I want a large tank about yr end I've decided to makeup a little frag tank. Also, I don't intend to put any sand in the tank. Do I need to keep a fish in there for any reason? I'd rather not even use live rock unless someone tells me I need to. I'm thinking weekly water changes and just carbon and floss in the back along with a decent pump and a powerhead. And I suppose if I start seeing algae a small CUC? Is there a chemical I can use to cycle the tank if I don't want sand, liverock, etc?
Good seeing you on the forum Molli!. Fish will help keep the tank cycled, no need for fish plural though... A little small fish will do fine. Live rock should at least be used in the sump. LR is one of the most important filtration devices. Eh, chemical wise. No the best way to cylce your tank is the old fashion way... LR and time... GL!
Thanks for the info! I'll move some of my LR over from my biocube -- have too much in that tank anyway. Now I just need to figure out the lighting! Dang I'm addicted to this hobby already!
