There is always a way. Do you want to place it above, below or beside the aquarium?

I would like to place it below in the cabinet. I know there is an upgrade accessory kit to allow the use of a chiller, sterilizer or another filter. So i am assuming it will work for a sump right?

The tank is 34 gallons so what would be the appropriate size that i would both need and fit under the cabinet?

Whatever kind of container will fit is what I would use. I have used all sorts of containers and tubs, but of course an aquarium is best because you can see into it. The area is an odd size so you may want to find or make an acrylic box.

I need to say right off, don't get hung up on the idea of baffles. That small of a space would be made even smaller if you were trying to utilize baffles. I have had great success with the water coming down in one corner, flowing across to a submersible pump in the opposite corner. The best Macroalgae to use is Chaetomorpha(free for the asking) and a simple yet effective light available at Lowes and HD for less than $20.

Also don't get hung up with the use of a skimmer. A refugium and occassional use of AC does pretty much what a skimmer does. In fact AC does things a skimmer cannot.

The major trick in adding a refugium to an undrilled tank is to get the water out of the tank without setting yourself up for a possible flood in the middle of the night. A few years ago I wrote up plans on how to make a simple and space efficient overflow. If you would like to read that, email me at [email protected]
Here is a pic of one of them and on the right you will see the top of my modified durso silencing device for the overflow. The sound of water flowing down a pipe can be very irritating.Smile
