Has anyone used the Tunze 3155 Osmolator Universal (Auto Top Off) unit? If so what are your opinions on it?

I have one. So far, so good. I like the alarm it has that goes off when the water gets too full. its only happened when i unplugged my pumps to do some maintainence, but its loud enough to probably wake me up if something really bad happened... The magnet that holds the float and sensor is nice too. Makes adjusting easy

I am using one from autotopoff.com.  Its been very reliable and doesnt break the bank.  I have heard the tunze one is sweet, I just cant get myself to spend that much money on one.

I'm still a little confused about ato's. I keep reading where, if I understand this correctly, you have to keep the RO water elevated above the tank water level to prevent backflow. Is this correct?

No, back flow isn't the issue. Well I guess that could happen if the end of your tubing was actually in the water of your sump.

If the tubing where your ato comes out is below the water line of your ato then you can create a siphon and end up with more water than is necessary in your sump. Kinda like when you use a one of those vacuum hoses to clean the sand in your tank. So you just want to make sure that your ato water line is below the end of your tubing. Mine comes up a bit high so I just had to cut the tubing shorter than I would've liked and it splashes a bit when it comes on but that's better than lugging water.

Thats good to hear. I don't have a sump so I will be filling directly into the tank.

I have my RO tank directly underneath my tank in my crawl space. I just have the tube up out of the water and sitting right next to the glass so it doesnt splash when it turns on
