 Topic: Emporer replacement cartridges

Has anyone seen or heard of these before? If so, do they work? are they worth the money?

Is there a reason why you want a biowheel? I would go with a canister over the biowheel. I started out with the bio wheel and went to the canister and still use one in my frag tank with sps in it and it does great! Edit (My frag tank is setup like a refugium with a great deal of macro algae so the canister just provides extra filtration. I probably could turn it off with no ill effect.)

i would recommend against using a biowheel. i had one when i started and it became a nitrate problem. it was so bad it wiped out my tank and killed fish and corals. i have since changed to a refugium with chaeto. and absolutely love it!

I currently run a biowheel (Emperor 440) filter in my 55 gal. aggressive tank. I have a small (7 gallon) refugium and a skimmer in the refugium. I have an eel (about 18" to 2 ft.) a HumaHuma trigger (About 4") a Lunar Wrasse (About 8") and a couple of small (4") Porcupine puffers. This is not my reef tank. These guys produce a LOT of waste! I run carbon (The regular cartridges) and phosphate removers in that filter as an added precaution. I am just looking for something long term that is cheap to run.

I use an emp 400 and i switched from the cartriges, which i consider useless unless i am taking out meds.. Which i also don't use only in rare cases... But i switched to plastic pot scrubbies in my emp 400. And i emptied the ammonia remover stuff from the case and put a piece of swamp cooler filter pad in it.. My 55 is excellent.. :) You can use most no chemical filter pad. I just used the swamp cooler pad cause i have extra on hand :)
