I buy twist PC (CFL) bulbs of the highest wattage possible in the "Daylight" color spectrum (not "soft white"). The "flood" type light bulbs are not as good because of extra glass, which actually reduces light output and makes them more costly. I pay about $12 for the Clip-on Lamp fixture with Cone Reflector and $5 for a package of 3 twist PC bulbs. The light that is emitted from flourescent tubes and bulbs is a wider range of the light spectrum than emitted by LED bulbs currently available in HD/Lowes. The wider spectrum is more effective at growing Macroalgae (and coral).

Oh, be sure to secure the spring loaded clip with a zip tie or something to ensure it can't accidentally fall into the water. Below is a very rough sketch of how to use zip ties around a screw in the roof of the stand. If clipped to piping, zip tie it to the pipe.
