T5 vs VHO- any comparisons out there?

Have you actually touched the bulbs side-by-side? My second and third guesses would be that the heat difference is caused by the ballast and the fact that the VHO is a UV actinic and my T5 bulbs are Blue Actinics, so different bulbs altogether.

Maybe it has to do with the location of the ballast. I haven't touched the T5HO but held my hand within an inch and felt very little or no heat.

there really isn't any heat unless you touch the bulb

My VHO's aren't hot?  Really?  They would get really hot in my old tank.  Interesting...

In response to the ballast location question. The T5 Ballast and the VHO ballast are inches from each other on my setup. Corey, you should come over sometime and feel the difference.

From an objective point of view if we would really like to come to a conclusion on this we would have to take a thermometer to the lights and not use subjective sences like touch.
