Topic: sexy shrimp Posted: October 31 2005 at 3:36pm |
Has anyone had good luck with these critters? I was thinking
about getting a couple. I assume they are about as easy to care
for as peppermint/cleaner/fire shrimp all of which I have had.
Tank is 20 gal with a single yellow tail damsel (a.k.a. Evil).
Will the damsel bother the shrimp?
Has anyone seen any locally?

I always see them at Bird World. But I wouldn't chance it with a mean damsel.

I've heard the yellowtail are the most calm damsels. Have I been
misinformed? Sorry, I have no input on the shrimp.

I have 2 of them and they have survived through thick and thin. Not one of my fish have ever bothered them. 20 gallons would be a perfect size for them. Mine love to hang from the leathers.

I have two of them in my 2.5g at work. Doing good for the 4-6 months I've had them.
Fish-4-U normally has them too.

Bringing back an old thread. Those of you who have sexy shrimp, what do you feed them? Do they do better in pairs and do they need certain corals or inverts in which to hang out?

I have 2 sexys in my edge with a damsel, 2 clowns and a helfichi. Nobody bothers them. Before I got my maxi mini anenome they would hang out in my ricordeas. Now they rarely leave the anenome. Sexy.'s are scavengers and will eat whatever they find. I usually squirt a little mysis their way and they are good to go.

Ok, so I went and picked up a couple of sexy shrimp, drip aclimated them for about 1 1/2 hrs and and let them out. One set up in the ricordea and the other by the green pocillopora (or however it's spelled.) They went in about 5, lights went off at 7, I checked on them before I went to bed and eveything was good and they were good. I also put in some food right before the lights went off and they went and ate as well. So, when I woke up the next morning. They were gone with no trace left. So, what happened? Do you think they died and the cleanup clew ate them? Did one of the fish eat them (1 juvi clown about and inch and a half, (1) 6 line wrass about an inch and a half long, 2 cardinals about the size of half dollars) did the hermit crabs take them out and eat them? I was looking through the tank for any traces of them, and I saw a bristle worm I haven't seen before. The part sticking out of the rock was about 2" long, but I don't know how long it is. Would it take them out? (on a side note, how do you get a bristle worm out?) It's a mystery!

I don't think it was the clown or the cardinals. Maybe the wrasse. I have had mine in my edge with a very healthy clean up crew. A pair of clowns ( the female is meaner than snot ). A damsel and a helfrichi and none of them have ever attempted to bother them. Are you sure they are gone and haven't just moved somewhere where you can't see them. I also have bristtleworms in my tank but I haven't lost anything to them..... As far as the hermits getting them I don't think so. The sexies will move very quick if they feel threatened. Hopefully they are just hanging out somewhere getting comfortable. I have thought several times I've lost one; just takes a minute of looking around to find them! Good luck!

I don't know if they're hiding...it's a pretty small tank without a lot of uncheckable hiding places and I've searched it pretty throughly. I think they're gone, but I hope not...
I got them from The Aquarium (because I had a gift card) but Fish 4 U has them as well and they're price is cheaper.
