I have one of Eric's calcium reactors that I haven't setup on my tank yet. I was wondering if I could run it without the co2 and not due any harm to the water before or after I turn the co2 on. I know bacteria will grow inside the reactor until I turn the co2 on and I don;t want to cause a problem with the bacteria dying off and causing high nitrates

No problem.  Just keep water flowing through it and you'll be fine.
