how long should i leave my lights on? should i turn them off at night?Confused

yes you should turn them off at night. some people run moon lights or something of the sort at night. however it is not needed. on our tanks that have anemones in main display we leave a moon light on at night so the fish can see to get around. there are quite a few posts on lighting schedules. most people just put their lights on timers! I would check the thread on lighting schedules to get an idea on how long they should be one.

I reciently had a thread about lighting schedules its a few down from this one. It has some great info on lighting times.  Since I went to a schedule, I think my fish and corals like it better.

If it is for a reef then the corals need 8-12 hours of light a day.
