I am looking at starting a 75gal reef tank. I have seen instructions online on how to build a really nice wood tank stand and hood. Does anyone have experience or is willing to build one?

I know a guy.  He just finished building the stand for live rock n' reef's new 240 gallon.  He is reasonable and knows his stuff.  I can PM me his details if you are interested.

You can see our builds here on the board and on our web site at www.richinscarpentry.com. Also Aquatic Dreams have several high quality stands and canopys on there showroom floor.

Be carefull of those that can build great cabinetry but dont under stand the forces of water/weight. Ive seen 3 tanks this last month that blew apart because the builder didnt understand what needed to be done.
