Putting together my reef xmas list and wanting some feedback on UV Sterlizers.

I want to put this on a 180 to control algae outbreaks (before they happen) as well as clear the water and take out some of the bad stuff.  I have found to get the fully recommended once I need a pretty powerful UV, will an underpowered one work as well?

I have had people tell me about the Coralife 36 watt.  It is the cheapest but I see it tends to leak.

Aqua UV is the other one I have heard about, for my size of tank it starts to get expensive.

Any input is appreciated.

I have run an aqua uv on all my tanks. They are a very good quality uv if you are willing to spend the money on them.

Expensive.  No way around it.  I have an emperor aquatics 25w on my 150.  Aqua UV and Emperor Aquatics are basically the same design and use the same bulbs.

+1 I have 3 running. They also have a longer than average bulb life so consider that in your calculations

I use the Coralife 36, and I also use the aqua traders uv. I'm getting in a couple more of them soon.

We use the aqua uv at work. They're on freshwater zebrafish systems for research but haven't had a single problem with them in over a decade.
