I had one as a hitchhiker on an acro frag about a month ago.  I haven't noticed any issues and have always known them to be reef safe.

I also had one come in as a hitchhiker about a year ago. I noticed that all of the SPS around the piece that he was on started to explode with growth after the acro crab showed up. They supposedly don't move from colony to colony, but when he first showed up I saw him in 3-4 different colonies depending on the day of the week. Since the colony he now lives in has gotten very large, he doesn't move around anymore.

To sum it up sweet find! I love them.

Acro crabs are awesome! Most of the SPS colonies we get in have them ..

Lyscer is correct the SPS seem to grow faster with AC living in them.

the one that I have gave up on a dieing coral, and moved from one side of the tank to the other overnight, the equivalent would have to be my walking from salt lake to Vegas overnight. anyway the coral that he lives is is doing very well, and the coral has done better because of him in there.

edited to fix grammar, spellcheck won't fix thatBig%20smile

I love acro crabs.  I used to have one in almost all of my larger SPS colonies but they died when I treated my tank for Red bugs...  Dead  Just as long as the acro crab is smooth you are ok.  But if it's hairy then you need to get rid of it ASAP.  Those are the bad acro crabs.  They'll eat at your SPS.

Ok....so where this crab is the coral is starting to die off...I can see white skeleton. Do you think he's eating it?

it could be that the crab sits there all day which in turn blocks the light from 'feeding' or coloring up that part of the coral.

I really doubt that it is eating the coral, also the acro crab that I have moves around all day looking for food so his sitting there is not ever been a problem for me.

might be a simple rtnCry

Dutch,
Is this the same rainbow acro that we identified as a pocillipora? If so, he's in the wrong kind of coral. I would try to move him to an actual acro and see if that works. Don't ditch him yet. Bring him over if you decide to get rid of him and I'll try him in an acro.

I've never heard of an acro crab being detrimental to an acro.

Did he come in on a coral, or did you buy him separate?
