I have a eshopps 300 Snowcone skimmer that repeatedly keeps overflowing on me. The manufacturers directions say it works best in 8-10" of water, and I have mine sitting at 9 with the outflow being 100% open. If the tank water is messed with at all (dosing, fans kicking on, water change) it starts to foam like mad and blow crap all over the place. The only thing can think is to raise the skimmer even more, but if I end up doing that then it's going to be touching the top of my stand.. These skimmers are frustrating.

How long has it been running? Does it have a good slime coat inside it? Definitely raise higher out of the water. Close down your air line a bit if need be

It's been on the tank for 2-4 weeks now, it doesn't have a airline intake reducer and it has a really.. Really good slime coat.. It's just whenever the water is touched it goes into a foam frenzy lol

I don't have any suggestions except turn off the skimmer during water changes.

OT: I usually clean that slime coat away when I dump the skimmate. Am I not supposed to do that?

It'll do the foaming either way, and the slime cost is pretty much the result of the "break in" period that everyone needs for their skimmer to pull proteins =)

Mine did the same exact thing for about 5-6 weeks before it was broken in. I am not really sure what breaking in means though; I was always under the impression that it took several weeks for the shipping oils/manufacturing oils to be cleaned away for the skimmer to start working.

Mine would be fine for several hours and then suddenly act up. It finally stopped after a period of time.

Are you dosing into the skimmer area or the return? Assuming they are separate. I wonder if dosing further away would help eliminate at least one pain in the butt foam up.

I am not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I personally noticed that one of my tanks, with a super oversized skimmer started working like a champ after a few days, whereas the one with an underpowered skimmer took forever. Too many variables (brand/ratio of water to skimmer capacity/more advanced) to know if that has anything to do with it, but just another idea.
